The Dog and the Horse

H3 VS H2 19-25, 20-25, 25-21, 18-25

A match the whole team had been looking forward to after our defeat last semester. This was an opportunity to show our growth not only in terms of our skills but also in attitude. Compared to our last match, the team was far more controlled emotionally, and was able to come back even from some slow starts. At the same time I would like to commend the effort of Heren 3 as they fought very hard the entire match, giving us an incredible run from our money.

Set 1: In the first set we started a little rocky, conceding the first few points to the Gents 3 team. In our second rotation we were able to make some important blocks that helped motivate the team and get the ball rolling. After our initial comeback we maintained control for the rest of the set.

Set 2: A little more of the same story, but we did not start with such a large gap in the beggining. We closed out the set comfortably without much worry that the game was going to slip out of our hands.

Set 3: In this set we took a massive step back. Gents 3 increased their overall pressure and we had a hard time keeping up with them. For most of the set we trailed behind maintaining around a 3 point gap between the teams. In our penultimate rotation we began losing many points, unable to convert over several sideouts. At this point our opponents were three points away from taking the set. An intelligent set of substitutions helped the team regain its footing at the end. We still lost the set, but clearly the momentum had begun swinging in our favor.

Set 4: In terms of the rallies our team had great control over the match. Despite this we had an incredible amount of service errors which led to Gents 3 keeping up with us. Once our service stabilized we were able to capitalize and end this set with a bang.

We hope to carry on this momentum to the match on Friday so we can start the first real streak of the season. We hope to collect some more victories as the season comes to a close. We still have a chance to reach our goal of promotion, all it will take is a little extra edge!
