“Kutwijfballen” and Libero Attacks

Today, as you may have expected, we had another match! This time, we again went to Oldenzaal. First, we had lunch ~in Germany~ at Lise’s place.

However, the first problem arose even before leaving. Willy lost the keys for her car… After a quick search, she found them! Where were they? In the lock on the outside of the car of course!

Then we made our way to the hall. During this short drive, we did come to one conclusion: Willy looks like a sweet and lovely girl, but when she is behind the wheel, an alter ego comes to life. Corners? Extra gas? Why not?! Imagine the BMW-driver mentality in the tiniest yellow car.

On the way, Daphne also discovered that she forgot her shorts. Luckily, Annelies couldn’t choose which pants she wanted to wear, so she brought two. Therefore, Daphne still had pants. To make sure she never forgets it again, we have written a song for her. It is on the beat of head-shoulders-knees-and-toes, and works wonders!

During the game itself, there were a few remarkable things. Vrank scored multiple “kutwijf-ballen” (if you know you know). Bert was on a roll, scoring 5 points in a row with her spikes! However, the streak ended when she was blocked… by the antenna… Lise also managed to score not one, not two but three attacks! And now I hear you thinking, that shouldn’t be too special, right? For your information: Lise was libero. Talking about Lise as libero: not too bad, except for the fact that she multiple times played upperhands in the three-meter zone. Oops… Luckely for her, the referee did not know the rules too good, as when the other team started to complain (which they had every right to), the ref was very confused as he thought that a new rule allows it.

About the ref, he definitely was in a hurry today. He one time whistled so soon that our libero wasn’t even close to the field yet. The opponent saw this happening, and took their shot. Instead of politely waiting, she immediately served at the open spot. Not very nice if you ask me… The point afterwards Vrank scored a “kutwijf-bal”. So it was even.

The match ended in a painfull 4-0… So we quickly showered and ate away our pain with an delicious carrot cake Annelies had baked. While enjoying the cake, a man personally invited us to the yearly glow-in-the-dark tournament held in Oldenzaal each year. So at least we made some impression!

Our next game is a while away, on the 1st of November. However, this means that you likely have nothing in the agenda yet! SO COME WATCH! Don’t you want to be a spectator when Ladies 2 wins their first match this season????!!

What do we like to drink?!

ZWEIZEN!!!

The attacking streak of Bert was devine

Tangerines in stead of grapes on the sideline

All nicely pealed

One point with no libero in the field
