Drowned cats and spinach power
Today was our first official match of the season! And now you're thinking, huh, where were they? Unfortunately, we thought the same about you, our supporters, but we understand it was confusing that we were already shining on the field at 11:00 in the morning. With a cup of coffee or tea, we started the day in the sports canteen, recovering like drowned cats after the rain.
During the match, we realized our diet had been a bit too much spinach lately, as our serves were a bit too far a few times. Luckily, we were able to use this power to hit the ball hard into the ground, and we made a lot of great attacks!
Besides attacking, we're also good at blocking, which you saw in the killer blocks and the many points we scored with them. One time, the spinach power took over again, and our block accidentally went behind the back line, but we quickly forget about that.
A small low point occurred when our libero, experiencing a slight identity crisis, suddenly ended up at the outside position near the net and thought she was allowed to jump and play the ball over the net. Then asked, very surprised: was I the one who made that mistake?
Speaking of identity crises, Ilse (Willie) reflected in the changing room and concluded that her passing today might have been better than her attack. Her explanation: adrenaline makes her run faster in a match than in training. Sounds pretty logical, right?
After an exciting final set (23-25), it was time for cake! Lise's gluten- and lactose-free cake was an absolute success, despite her humble self-reflection. The cake met several requirements that hadn't been met in the past; it was firm, properly baked, and didn't resemble a bowl of custard. We also thought the icing to cover up the burnt top was a very clever idea.
The day started early for us
Next time, some prefer to take the bus
Even though we didn't win
The match was a good begin
Our self-reflections were a big plus
